In atmosphere and tone it is completely different.Adam Whiteheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11383677312079611311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-23299005345120493172015-07-20T08:48:30.714+00:002015-07-20T08:48:30.714+00:00Huh? Is 2312?Jenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03623941508503788134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-61012934885696076592015-07-20T07:59:25.080+00:002015-07-20T07:59:25.080+00:00For military SF, pretty much anything by Dan Abnet...For military SF, pretty much anything by Dan Abnett (particularly his GAUNT'S GHOSTS series and EISENHORN/RAVENOR trilogies) in the WH40K setting. Timothy Zahn, Michael Stackpole and Elizabeth Moon have some good stuff. Peter F. Hamilton (particularly in the NIGHT'S DAWN TRILOGY and COMMONWEALTH books) does some of the safe stuff as in THE EXPANSE, but with (slightly) harder SF concepts.<br /><br />David Brin's UPLIFT SAGA also is certainly worth a read, and does widescreen, blockbuster SF with a few harder SF edges and some more bizarre concepts a bit better than THE EXPANSE. For something near-future (limited more to the Solar System) there's Kim Stanley Robinson, initially in THE MARS TRILOGY but then in 2312. I haven't read it yet, but Paul J. McAuley's QUIET WAR duology has also been strongly recommended for its near-future, limited-to-the-Solar-System setting. Its more recent sequels have done the EXPANSE thing of taking the story to other solar systems after the discovery of FTL technology.Adam Whiteheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11383677312079611311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-23128290380947399112015-07-19T23:36:06.368+00:002015-07-19T23:36:06.368+00:00'A very nicely-done action story, but there is...'A very nicely-done action story, but there is military SF around that does this stuff a lot better.'<br /><br />Can you recommend some of those for people who enjoyed The Expanse?jellydonutnoreply@blogger.com
