So I'm not expecting much similarity between the two.

Something that's weird is SFX last month talking about Penelope Cruz's character Angelica (Blackbeard's daughter) being in the book, when she isn't.Adam Whiteheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11383677312079611311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-34484988272842347282011-04-29T15:56:46.333+00:002011-04-29T15:56:46.333+00:00I think you have to be in the right frame of mind ...I think you have to be in the right frame of mind to read any Tim Powers novel.

But if you are in that zone, then his brilliance can be fully appreciated.Yohannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-31181960175814316672011-04-29T04:56:29.084+00:002011-04-29T04:56:29.084+00:00I enjoyed the book but rather sad that it has been...I enjoyed the book but rather sad that it has been turned into a Jack Sparrow movie. If you come to looking for a crazy weird Tim Powers story, you'll enjoy yourself.

maybe Powers is an acquired taste, not unlike China Mieville?Andrea Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07289862046162890751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-91099943169123978372011-04-28T12:28:41.156+00:002011-04-28T12:28:41.156+00:00I turned pages!

But hell, I had such fun with On Stranger Tides, so no complaints here. In fact I'm inspired to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean just to see how it does, or does not, translate - which after the last few embarrassments I wouldn't have imagined myself saying otherwise, not ever.

Anyway. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08713791516631476930noreply@blogger.com
