Beevor covers both sides of the conflict, and his sources are drawn from Russian and German reports, plans, newsreels, papers, diaries, etc. He also wrote books about the fall of Berlin and D-Day, which I have to read.Dave Cesaranohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01454928720043301400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-73598026083002434472011-02-04T06:43:56.080+00:002011-02-04T06:43:56.080+00:00Strangely enough, I'll be covering part of the...Strangely enough, I'll be covering part of the other side of the story soon. I've signed with UK publisher Helion for my next book, which will probably be out in 2012 (I already co-authored a book for them back in 2004, they're good people).

It will be a photo study of the Germanic Waffen-SS. The Dutch, Flemish, and Norwegian Legions formed part of the siege ring around Leningrad, and later, the Nordland Division and Nederland Brigade were briefly on the Oranienbaum front, before the final breaking of the German hold on that area. Nordland and Nederland covered the German retreat through Ingermanland, until a new front could be formed along the Narva River.

I've written about these campaigns in a previous book, but now they'll receive thorough photographic coverage. Salisbury's book is a good reminder of what the human cost of these battles was, and how the Soviet people were caught between two merciless dictators, who both had little interest in their welfare.Marchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07474232677152016337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-85768846634430814722011-02-03T12:15:59.378+00:002011-02-03T12:15:59.378+00:00Sounds well worth getting. I'd recommend Anthony Beevor's 'Stalingrad' as another excellent book that may appeal to readers interested in this area.Mark Lawrencehttp://www.princeofthorns.com/noreply@blogger.com
