I remembered seeing him on the 1980s Twilight Zone reboot and in Hellraiser, as well as Liberace (my folks were and are fans of Liberace) on the made for (US) TV miniseries about the famous piano player.

Going to have log into amazon on the PS3 sooner than later to catch up with this RobBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04014122096561992311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-6443186147628990952013-01-25T19:30:29.194+00:002013-01-25T19:30:29.194+00:00Ah, you can't leave out Kai Winn in your cast ...Ah, you can't leave out Kai Winn in your cast of recurring villains - Louise Fletcher was amazing!Rurunoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-87252857290012957432013-01-23T12:55:47.405+00:002013-01-23T12:55:47.405+00:00This was a great pleasure to read, especially sinc...This was a great pleasure to read, especially since it was the kind of praise for the show that I was hoping to read.

I was in college when Next Gen started and really didn't get on board with the series until the final 3 or 4 seasons. At the time I hit some cons and even Next Gen cast members were calling DS9 "Deep Sleep 9" and so given that and a weird work scheduled I never watched an episode.

A few years back after a show on the history channel about Star Trek I got a desire to see it and started buying the DVD sets and was instantly hooked. I realize some of the first season was rough, like any show, but I was very surprised at how all those years later the show did not feel dated to me like other ST shows do. I connected with the characters in the first episode, as did my wife, and soon we were devouring it (along with our daughter) on a nightly basis.

The course through that series was one of the most pleasurable I have ever had with television, SF or otherwise. Although I will always have my child-born love of the original series, DS9 is by far the best written and acted of the group, the most consistent, and as you pointed out has the best overall story arc.

I wrote a long babbling love affair post with it after we watched the final episode. I felt a real loss after we were done as there are few shows that I've connected with in that way.

My only real complaint is that I liked the initial opening music better than the change. A minor complaint, to be sure.

Thanks for this 20 year tribute, Adam. 20 years! Wow, I feel old.
Carl V. I was a huge DS9 fan, and never understood why so many people dismissed it. Just a great cast of characters, with some really deeply layered relationships.

In terms of storytelling, I'm not sure any Trek series can complete with the intensity and the sheer spectacle of the Dominion War.
