Pacific was decent, in parts, but I really didn't connect with the characters as much as I would have liked. As an Aussie, I thought the homefront episode could have been cut entirely and replaced with more scenes of battle planning, logistical problems, ship movements etc. We had enough homefront material covered by Basilone's pov imho. Hell, even a 30 sec aerial engagement! (as you say, even covering the consequences of naval fights would suffice). >_<

Having said that, I loved that little animation of superimposing over the south Pacific islands and zooming in when they changed locations. :)Chrisnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-90146708038670514322012-02-19T21:58:56.090+00:002012-02-19T21:58:56.090+00:00I watched the series only once, but the narrative ...I watched the series only once, but the narrative structure wasn't that compelling, indeed. I had a hard time trying to connect to the supporting cast, but it wasn't that much easier in Band of Brothers with their focus on a different character each episode. Both series' are more ambience pieces, showing the mood and mindset of the era and not so much focusing on characters.Stefan Sassehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03504751435668017553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-22246391799753080822012-02-19T19:45:35.661+00:002012-02-19T19:45:35.661+00:00Nice review, and I agree especially with your prai...Nice review, and I agree especially with your praise for the special effects (the Battles of Pelielu and Okinawa sequences were fantastic) and with the complexity and disjointness of the three storylines: I had a hard time distinguishing between the secondary characters, so often I had the feeling that my emotive response to some deaths was much less intense than what should've been in the intentions of the authors.

Just one note: John Basilone, not Tom.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-58462108247617924492012-02-19T17:06:25.209+00:002012-02-19T17:06:25.209+00:00Am I the only one who thinks it ironic that any wa...Am I the only one who thinks it ironic that any war should be referred to as 'Pacific'?Mitchell Hundrednoreply@blogger.com
