It brings together everything that Gaiman had so carefully constructed over the entire series. It's beautifully plotted and, when I first read it, I found it almost unbearable to watch Dream tread the lonely path of his own destruction.

And I completely agree with you on the artwork. It works brilliantly with Gaiman's text.Slack Bladderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07245277053474510532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-6092349067676666672013-01-17T13:33:41.616+00:002013-01-17T13:33:41.616+00:00According to The Sandman Companion, by this point ...According to The Sandman Companion, by this point Gaiman had a lot of say in it. When THE KINDLY ONES started in 1994, the comic had been going for six years and had been a smash hit success for most of that time, so Gaiman had more power by that point.Adam Whiteheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11383677312079611311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-13494557476735093482013-01-17T12:10:26.856+00:002013-01-17T12:10:26.856+00:00@Roland: I'm pretty sure DC chose the artist, ...@Roland: I'm pretty sure DC chose the artist, not Gaiman...especially not so early in his career.GunMetalBluehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10374362891687088611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7703856341303488608.post-54565549812599538432013-01-16T07:59:47.671+00:002013-01-16T07:59:47.671+00:00It is indeed the best storyline of the Sandman ser...It is indeed the best storyline of the Sandman series, but I don't agree with you on the art.
It is just awful! The absolute worst art of the entire series and I think it does harm to a story that is otherwise almost perfect in every aspect.
I cannot understand how Gaiman chose this for his biggest and most important storyline.Rolandnoreply@blogger.com
