Third RIDDICK movie on the way

Universal have signed a deal with star Vin Diesel and director David Twohy to release a third movie based on the character of Riddick, following on from the excellent Pitch Black and the promising-but-overblown Chronicles of Riddick. The third film, with the working title of just Riddick, will apparently retreat from the (expensive) complexities of the second movie see a return to the smaller-scale action of the first movie.

This could be promising. I didn't hate Chronicles of Riddick and found it somewhat enjoyable, if a much less successful film than the original. However, Pitch Black and the two spin-off computer games from the series, Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena (all made with Twohy and Diesel's involvement), are all superb, so colour me cautiously optimistic that this could be an interesting flick.

  1. Sweet. Chronicles of Riddick is one of the greatest movies of all time. Although if the new one is too small scale I'll probably skip it.

  2. Quite looking forward to this. Unlike the majority of people, I dug the second film, and found the first pretty damn good, as well. Count me a fan.

No idea why I've never gotten around to checking out the video games, though...

  3. Pitch Black was excellent. Hope they return to what made Riddick such an intriguing character.

  4. It would be great fun for him to 'shrug off' the second film, which I did like.

It would make his character that much more badass in that, "Ya, I was lord of the most feared race in the galaxy, but what a shite job that was. Had to turn it down."

Then go back to the on the run plots.

  6. Much like all the others, I enjoyed Chronicles, despite the oddness of the plot.

Perhaps it'd have been better to make the prison world a volcanic prison island on the same world the Necromongers were invading.

  7. It's a shame neither of the movies live up to the plot or acting of the video game.

Anything sci fi is worth a watch in my book, though. Good news.

Talking of news, any progress on that dream video game based on your DnD wizard, Vin?
