Christopher Priest has turned in the manuscript for his new novel, The Islanders. This is his first book since the 2002 masterpiece The Separation, my favourite novel from the entire decade.
The novel currently has an October 2011 release date from Gollancz, although that is likely tentative at this early stage.
I have never read any Christopher Priest. I think he was always poorly marketed as a result of walking the line between "literature" and "genre."
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for the heads up, I will have to checkout both books.
May I be the first to say ooooh?
ReplyDeleteI came late to Christopher Priest - after the other Christopher's adaptation of The Prestige, in fact - but I've adored everything of his I have read. Didn't realise he'd been out of the game for so long... I take it I should make time for The Separation?
THE SEPARATION is spectacular, especially for the ending which is fairly brain-melting. Maybe not quite as clever and stunning as his earlier THE AFFIRMATION, but still amazing. To the tune of being better than every other work of SF I read in the 2000s.
ReplyDeleteWhat luck, then, that I happen to have a copy! Pays to be a hoarder sometimes, it really does...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see someone enjoys Priest as much as I do
ReplyDeleteVery exciting! Although the long wait is a bit of a downer...
