The game was launched during the early stages of the big board game revival scene of the late 2000s and most of the 2010s. It cast players as members of the Colonial Fleet attempting to escape the pursuit of the Cylons, with the caveat that one or more of the players were secret Cylon agents themselves. Mechanics simulated resource shortages and space combat. The game had three expansions: Pegasus (2009), Exodus (2010) and Daybreak (2013), which each added new mechanics, cards, characters and ships to the game.
The game fell out of print later in the decade and rapidly became a much sought-after rarity, with copies of the base game alone going for three figures on eBay. Unopened collections of the base game and all three expansions can easily command four figures online.
Ghost Galaxy was founded in 2019 by Christian T. Petersen, the former founder and head of Fantasy Flight, with it appearing that some of the original design team may return for this new version of the game.

Ghost Galaxy being founded by Christian T. Petersen makes this reprint feel almost inevitable — the BSG board game was the crown jewel of the FFG catalog, and who better to bring it back than the man who built it? The hidden-traitor mechanic has been copied endlessly since 2008 but never really bettered; there's something about paranoia working best when it's one contained game of lies rather than a whole campaign. I'll be curious whether the crowdfunding campaign in the New Year reprints it faithfully or takes the chance to rebalance some of the cards that veteran players have memorized by now.
I think it's not a classical reprint (like Lords of Waterdeep) but a kind of redesign.
Pity there was never a digital version of the Battlestar Galactic board game or a digital version of the similar lovecraftian game Unfathomable.
