Congrats to Joe Abercrombie

Joe Abercrombie's new novel, The Heroes, has debuted at #3 on The Sunday Times bestseller list in the UK (I would link, but the Times website is only accessible to those who pay for it). This is a very impressive achievement for a fantasy author in the UK, solidly in Terry Pratchett territory (a bit higher than Robert Jordan, who usually gets in around #5). It's also a notable improvement on Best Served Cold, which landed at #11.

Interesting to see how the American edition does, but this is great news for Joe (though possibly not for the pressure for the next book to do even better!).

Abercrombie doesn't feel pressure, fool.

Great news, and well worth it. I'm only 100 pages in but I'm absolutely loving it.

I finished this over the weekend and have to say it is my favourite so far. I think I'll have to go back and re-read Best Served Cold which at the moment is my least favourite of the five.

Interestingly I did not like this book at all. None of the characters caught my interest and there is not much story to the book either.

I liked the trilogy best and found Best Served Cold still quite good, but this?

None of the characters can even compare to the lost finger of Ninefinger.

@anonymous: Ninefinger won't appear in this book, but his name will be put to good use. ;)

Easily his best, most mature work.
Does however, make his previous efforts seem a little juvenile by comparison.

Argh still waiting on the pre-order to arrive from BookDep!

Do they include pre-orders in the sales figures? I assume they must.

@Longasc: Not much of a story? Really? You must have been reading a different version from me then. There is a quite obvious story, in fact several stories running throughout the book.

And nice of you to spoil it for people who haven't read it yet.

This is sitting in my to read pile along with half a dozen other hardbacks. Sales no doubt helped by Amazon offering it for £6.48 on pre-order and Waterstones offering it for half price on launch. Great to see him hitting the big time though.
