Modiphius unveil the FALLOUT tabletop roleplaying game

Modiphius Entertainment have unveiled the official Fallout tabletop roleplaying game. Remarkably - because the original video game was inspired by a homebrew tabletop campaign - this is the first official tabletop roleplaying version of the franchise in its almost quarter-century history.

The game will allow players to take on the roles of vault dwellers, ghouls, super mutants and robots, and will allow for GMs to create campaigns set anywhere in post-apocalyptic North America (and, with some imagination, elsewhere). The game will ship with a default setting based on Boston and the surrounding Commonwealth, from the video game Fallout 4, but it should be easy enough to adapt to any other settings.

The core rulebook is enormous at 438 pages and will be accompanied with custom dice, handouts, character sheet pads, Nuka Cola Cap coins and the possibility of incorporating their enormous miniatures range from the Fallout: Wasteland Warfare game into their core game. The game will also ship with a limited edition based on the GECK (Garden of Eden Creation Kit) from the video games, and a larger table bundle incorporating numerous extras.

The game uses the popular 2d20 rules system from Modiphius's other games, including Star Trek Adventures and Dishonored.

The game has a release date of "summer 2021," although given Modiphius's infamously vague release windows, it might be better to circle autumn before you get a copy in your hands. Additional expansions for the game should follow the initial release.

Modipihius reveal FALLOUT tabletop RPG cover art and release window

Modiphius Entertainment has confirmed a release window for their long-gestating Fallout tabletop roleplaying game, based on the video game series from Interplay, Black Isle and Bethesda. The game will launch in Q2 2021 (April-June).

The tabletop game will use Modiphius' 2d20 game engine (used in other games such as their Star Trek and Dishonored RPGs) and will launch with a core book, dice set, GM toolkit and a collector's edition.

Modiphius are already publishing a Fallout tabletop wargame, Wasteland Warfare, which has a roleplaying-focused supplement. I imagine it will also be possible to use the Wasteland Warfare miniatures with the 2d20 roleplaying game.

Modiphius are readying to ship their Dune: Adventures in the Imperium RPG, which should hit shops by April. Later in 2021 they hope to release a Homeworld-based RPG as well, with rumours circulating that they are also working on an Elder Scrolls tabletop roleplaying game to accompany their Call to Arms miniatures line for that setting.

Modiphius tease new DUNE RPG and artwork for early 2021 release

Modiphius have been teasing their new Dune tabletop roleplaying game with a reveal of some of the artwork and confirming that they will start taking pre-orders next month.

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium utilises the 2d20 rule system that Modiphius have used for their Age of Conan, Dishonored and Star Trek RPGs, among others. The base setting is some years before the events of Dune, with the players and Gamesmaster working together to create a new noble House of the Landsraad, which the players can guide through political intrigue as well as representing its interests through agents who have to go on clandestine missions to distant worlds, including Arrakis.

The core Adventures in the Imperium rulebook will be available as a standard game and also a choice of one of three deluxe editions, with a special cover reflecting the sigil of House Atreides, House Corrino or House Harkonnen. There will be two dice sets available for the game, as well as a Gamemaster Screen and a Player's Journal to record adventure notes in. Further expansions to the game are in the planning stages.

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium is anticipated to be released in early 2021. Modiphius are also currently working on Fallout and Homeworld RPGs using the 2d20 system (the former separate to their Fallout: Wasteland Warfare miniatures range). There are also rumours that Modiphius are planning an Elder Scrolls roleplaying game to accompany their Call to Arms miniatures range.

DUNE tabletop roleplaying game gets a name and release window

A new Dune tabletop roleplaying game is on its way from Modiphius Entertainment for release at the tail end of 2020 (although all bets are off because of the pandemic, but hopefully etc). Announced a year or so back, the game now has a logo and a title: Dune: Adventures in the Imperium.

The game will use Modiphius's 2d20 rule set (used in its Conan the Barbarian and Star Trek RPGs, among many others), and, as the title suggests, that the game will be predominantly set before the events of the original novel Dune, in the "classic" version of the setting with the feuding houses of the Landsraad pitted against one another in intrigue with the Emperor, the Bene Gesserit, the Tleilaxu and Spacing Guild pulling the strings in the background.

The original plan seems to have been to coordinate the game's release with the Dune movie from director Denis Villeneuve, which is currently due out on 18 December (pending developments in the pandemic).

HOMEWORLD tabletop roleplaying game coming from Modiphius in 2020

Modiphius are fast-turning into one of the most interesting companies in the tabletop RPG space. They're working on tabletop RPGs for the Fallout and Dune universes, and have now announced that an RPG based on the Homeworld video game franchise is on the way.

Homeworld: Revelations will allow players to create characters and take part in the epic voyage across the Whirlpool Galaxy that formed the narrative for the original game. The game will also allow players to take on the role of other races (presumably not the Bentusi, due to them being massive living starships) and play in other time periods, presumably including the era of the upcoming Homeworld 3, due for release in 2022.

Homeworld: Revelations will use the 2d20 system used by many of Modiphius' other games and will also feature an innovative Starter Box concept, where the game ships with a prepared adventure in envelopes which teaches the game simultaneously to both the GM and players with no setup time required.

Homeworld: Revelations appears to be tentatively targeting a 2020 release, but with an interesting scope and a possible crowdfunding campaign to come, it may slip to 2021.

FALLOUT to get two pen-and-paper roleplaying games

Fallout is to - finally! - make the transition to tabletop rolepaying. The venerable video game franchise, which turns 22 this year, started life as a homebrew game played by the team at Interplay using the GURPS rules system before became a video game, so this is a sign of the franchise going full circle.

Two products are in development by Modiphius. The first is an expansion to Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, the tabletop miniatures wargame released last year. This expansion will provide context for the battles in the game and uses a rules set modified from the miniatures game. It sounds like this product is aimed at those who favour using miniatures in their games. The expansion will be released in summer 2019, with a special boxed set containing both the expansion and the Wasteland Warfare starter set will follow at Christmas.

The second product is a stand-alone Fallout RPG which will use the 2d20 rules system used for Mutant Chronicles, Star Trek Adventures, Conan and John Carter of Mars, among other products. This will launch in 2020 with an initial rulebook followed by expansions.

This is positive news. Fallout has a rich setting and impressive lore, and it's way past time that a tabletop roleplaying version was available.
