The David Gemmell Awards have a auction every year, and this year they are offering non-attendees of the award ceremony the chance to bid on lots. Among the items on offer is the chance to appear in Scott Lynch's fourth Gentleman Bastard novel, The Thorn of Emberlain (it being too late to arrange the same thing for the forthcoming third novel, The Republic of Thieves). Usually the person who wins these kind of events gets killed off in a nasty manner, but Scott has thrown in a twist: your character will survive! But only by the narrowest of the margin.
For a full list of items, including the complete Dresden Files from Orbit Books (complete in their swanky new covers) and the chance to have your manuscript appraised by publisher and editor Jo Fletcher, check out the link.

Is it for charity?
hell yeah I fancy that!
me thinks I need to go see how much $ is in my savings account, and start converting to pounds. ;)
any idea when the third book is releasing
On the charity issue, I took a closer look at the website and it says the money goes towards keeping the Gemmell Awards going, so no.
The third book is 'currently scheduled' for November 2011. The last time I spoke to the publishers they said it was looking good to hit that, and they should be able to confirm it one way or the other by the end of the summer.
I assume this means that the release of Republic of Thieves is now a definite rather than a maybe.
It's a definite maybe ;-)
Wait? how did tou find (since Scott dosen't update a thing on either his livejournal or his twitter).
Scott updated his Livejournal this morning. He's promising seven updates over the next week or so, with news on both THIEVES and THORN, which is interesting (could he have written both THIEVES and THORN during the long gestation period for THIEVES? Probably not, but that would be cool).
Also, I have contacts at Scott's publishers.
Rereading the livejournal post a second time, it struck me that he might have been promising 'Republic' news rather than "Thorn".
The line was:
"It's a cameo appearance in the forthcoming The Thorn of Emberlain, the Locke book immediately following The Republic of Thieves, about which you'll hear more shortly, and no I'm not talking about it until then."
In theory he could be referring to either title, though I agree it sounds like he's talking about 'Thorn'.
Its so great to see him blogging and twittering again. looking forward to both books.Praying for ROT for Nov. The mere mention of TOE made me also pee a little from excitement.
