What are your favourite SF&F worlds?

Jeff VanderMeer and Underland Press are working on a book called If You Lived Here: The Top 30 All-Time Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Worlds and are asking for input from fans on what worlds they'd like to see in the book. So if you like reading about Arrakis, think the castles of Westeros are cool or like getting moody at the end of time on the Dying Earth, you can submit your entries here and may get a quote and credit in the final book.

Having just read Finch I think I can say that Jeff Vandermeer is the right author to be attached to this project.

I'll cast my vote for Westeros.

Adam, I've become a very big fan of your writing (I wish you would try your hand at fiction). I've poured through your reviews. I've picked up an inkling of a few of your favorite series, but because everyone loves lists, it would be very cool to see you write an article of your top 10 favorite fantasy series or books or authors. =)

I'd have to go with Malaz world or Earwa. The sheer amount of world building is incredible.

Favourite Fantasy world...it's a hard question. Favourite world to read was the unnamed world from The Long Price Quartet but I like the World of Mistborn too.
Favourite world where I would like to live...that is a bit tougher. I would choose a world where magic has the role of technology such as Eberron or Netheril (FR) from the DnD worlds.

I cast my votes for "Westeros" and "The Long Price Quartet World".

Tolkien is an obvious choice, and so is Jordan and Brooks.

"Where I'd like to live" and "which fantasy world do i think is the best are quite distinct. I like Earwa and Westeros but wouldn't want to live there!
The potter world sounds safe. I'd probably go for Pullman's "His dark materials" world where everyone has their soul as a talking animal as that would be cool.

Hum. I love reading about lots of different worlds - Westeros, Deverry, Randland, Pern (more so when I was a teenager) et al - but I'm not sure I'd like to live in them. I think I'd like to live in Lyra's Oxford (Golden Compass) and have my own daemon.

China Mieville's Bas-lag; hands down one of the most unique and inventive worlds

The Witcher 2 is currently the nearest thing to living in a dark&gritty fantasy novel (frankly, why are they mentioned here...). With the exception of the annoying fighting system, of course, as a good fighting system and games seem to amount to an inherent contradiction by now.
