WESTEROS: TOTAL WAR map preview

The Westeros: Total War team have released a video showing their 3D map of Westeros in action (as well as the faction-selection screen):

The mod is for Medieval II: Total War and its Kingdoms expansion, and will be released when it's done. More information (previews, screenshots etc) here.

One has to wonder what GRRM's take on this would be, given his strident opposition to fanfiction.

It's an old game. Does it work OK on Windows 7? Certainly quite inexpensive to purchase.

I understand that GRRM was contacted about the very, very first version of the mod (when it was in development in 2004-05 as a ROME: TOTAL WAR mod) and had no complaints as long as, obviously, the mod kept well away from trying to make any money off the back of ASoIaF in any way, shape or form. That's pretty much the default position most people have towards mods.

In fact, New Line Cinema have proven to be hugely understanding and tolerant of the excellent THIRD AGE mod for MEDIEVAL II, essentially leaving it alone even when they used music and video clips from the films. Shutting it down would have cost them immense goodwill from the fans (who have, after all, poured thousands of man-hours into making the thing).

As far as I know, MEDIEVAL II has no problems running on Windows 7. I'll be giving the new version of THIRD AGE a test drive in the next few weeks, so hopefully this is the case.

Medieval II: Total War + Kingdoms expansion have no troulbe at all with either Vista or 7, both 32 and 64bit flavours.

Can't wait for his mod.
