China Mieville has written an interesting essay about modern London for The New York Times, touching on the recent riots, the increasingly desperate housing shortage and the impact of the upcoming Olympic Games on the city. It's a bleak, but not totally hopeless, piece.The highlight for me is Mieville's depiction of mayor Boris Johnson as a "ninja of bumptiousness."
