Opening title sequence for THE LAST KINGDOM

BBC America has released the opening title sequence to The Last Kingdom, a new ongoing historical series based on Bernard Cornwell's Saxon series of novels. The first season of the show is expected to cover (more or less) the first two books in the series.

The series debuts on 10 October on BBC America. Bafflingly, no airdate has been given for the UK, where it is expected to air on BBC2.

Also baffling is the way the flames consume Wales. Somebody needs a history lesson...

I am so excited for this. Jonathon Norrel was a little stuffy for me. I cant wait to see Uhtred carve his way through the Danes.

I think they decided to show the flame consuming Wales purely so that visually Wessex would be the Last Kingdom. Makes it simpler to understand for those who don't know their history and more dramatic visually... a bit of artistic licence.
